POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Corporate Location Advisory Services (“CLAS Director”) role is responsible for executing the Corporate Location Advisory Services program of work for the eight-county San Antonio region. The CLAS Director guides companies and their advisors through the corporate location decision and site selection process and ensures robust “service after the sale” as a client establishes in the region. The CLAS Director effectively collaborates and activates cross-functional teams by partnering across the Economic Development team, across the organization, and with gSATX regional partners, investors, site location consultants, and other external stakeholders to ensure effective and exceptional project management, resulting in corporate location wins and highly engaged expanding companies.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

Effectively Manage Corporate Location Projects, Deliver Impactful Services, and Recruit New Businesses to San Antonio:

  • Professionally and enthusiastically represent the San Antonio region globally in all economic development efforts in various forums and audiences (executives, site selectors, elected officials).
  • Initiate, develop, and maintain relationships with global site selection consultants to ensure a steady stream of high-quality expansion projects that align with target sectors and regional economic development strategy.
  • Develop, inform, and/or execute on the creation of key data sets and visuals, marketing collateral and presentations, prospect and industry messaging, and hosting activations in collaboration with the full Economic Development and Brand & Communications teams.
  • Serve as a direct project lead for prospect companies; providing complete and professional technical assistance to prospects; market analysis/trends, information gathering.
  • Support organizational efforts to work with local employers on their talent pipeline needs and how they align to education and training offered throughout the MSA.  
  • Serve as a principal point of contact with a diverse coalition of partners, organizations, and private companies, securing their cooperation, support, and action to meet the location decision requirements of individual prospect companies.
  • Initiate and proactively develop and maintain relationships with gSATX partners and regional partners to accomplish the goals of gSATX’s regional economic development strategy.
  • Ensure smooth transitions and handoffs for clients when converting between lead generation to project, and project to BRE phases.
  • Maintain meticulous information in organization’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.

Stay Informed and Be Present:

  • Remain abreast of economic development marketing best practices and trends (including economic development issues and target industry trends) that affect greater:SATX and its goals.
  • Represent greater:SATX and promote organizational objectives at official functions.
  • Jump in enthusiastically to support the team in other duties as assigned.
  • Be a catalyst for mobilizing multiple partners from the private and public sectors to advance the region creatively and powerfully.
  • In conjunction with the Chief Economic Development Officer, CEO and investors, carry-out active prospect and/or consultant marketing trips to targeted geographic locations and industry sectors to bring corporate location decisions and maintain relationships with companies/individuals from whom gSATX prospect leads are generated.
  • Manage and grow relationships to enhance collaboration with all partners, local, regional, national, and international.
  • Consistently identify and champion opportunities for investor engagement in prospect development and marketing activations.
  • Identify and support opportunities for new investor recruitment and engagement.
  • In support of the gSATX Business Advancement team, support the retention and expansion of existing target sector companies and other critical businesses in the region. 
  • Contribute to developing and maintaining corporate targeting lists, general and targeted marketing materials, marketing activations, and messaging to support local company growth. Partner with the gSATX Economic Development team to strategize, connect, and pitch companies as opportunities arise.
  • Gain robust understanding of what top office and industrial sector employers do, how they operate, and have/build relationships across multiple functions within large corporate headquarters so we can anticipate needs for retention and expansion purposes. Inform the organization on these findings and champion opportunities to strengthen connections and support for gSATX and its mission.
  • Gain robust understanding of the region’s global business ties to foster greater connection, supply chain development, and lead generation opportunities. Inform the organization on these findings and champion opportunities to strengthen connections and support for gSATX and its mission.
  • Participate in meetings of economic development professional associations, chambers of commerce, municipal councils, or other economic development-related committees, as assigned by the Chief Economic Development Officer and SVP.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Public Administration, Marketing, or related field required.


Experience: 

  • At least three (3) years of experience managing corporate expansion projects at an economic development organization with ability to demonstrate success in those projects preferred.
  • Experience in economic development or non-profit organizations preferred.

Computer Skills: MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook). Salesforce CRM experience preferred.

Other Requirements: Assist and/or participate in travel as needed.  Valid Texas driver license and passport.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a flexible work environment which includes both in-office attendance and the ability to work from home as business needs allow. Work is performed both indoors/sedentary, and outdoors, traveling to/from meetings. Operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion.  Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, and multi-functioning printer. Ability to travel for business development trips, and locally to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events. After hours work/ travel/ meetings may be required. Maintaining ongoing workload during business travel may be necessary.
